- May is the only female companion of Ash's not to have had a walking Pokémon. In addition, she is also the only female companion that did not have a Pokémon fully disobey her.
- May owns four starter Pokémon, the most ever out of all of Ash's traveling companions.
- Both May and her brother Max are the only friends of Ash to have a central role in a Pokémon movie.
- May and Max are two of three of Ash's friends who have had their father make an appearance in the anime. The other is Brock.
- May's Contest cry is "Take the stage!" (US) and "Stage on!" (Japan). In the dub, she also uses variations, such as "On stage!"
- Five out of seven of May's Pokémon have an 87.5% chance of being male in the games, namely Munchlax, Blaziken, Glaceon, Venusaur, and Wartortle (however out of these, May's Venusaur has been confirmed to be female).
